When a session runs past its included budget, Extra Usage helps your app keep serving traffic instead of immediately returning errors. You stay in control of how much, how often, and per which key.
Recurring top-ups
Pick a charge amount that gets billed whenever your balance runs out. Top-ups repeat automatically to help avoid interruptions during normal production traffic.
$5 minimum
The smallest configurable charge amount is $5 per top-up, so you're never billed in tiny, hard-to-reconcile increments.
Pays for AI & storage
Your Extra Usage balance is drawn down by AI operations and storage that exceed what's bundled with your plan, on the same billing cycle.
Per-key spend limits
Cap how much any single API key can consume from the balance, so a runaway client or test environment can't drain the account.
Don't want overage charges? Extra Usage can be disabled at any time from your billing settings. Billable AI and storage requests will then be rejected once the included budget is exhausted, until the next cycle.
Frequently Asked Questions
What counts as a request?
Any API call to read, write, update, or delete data counts as one request. Cached read requests served from our edge nodes still count towards your quota.
What happens if I exceed my session budget?
On Pro and Max plans, Extra Usage kicks in: a recurring top-up (minimum $5) is billed and that balance pays for AI operations and storage beyond what's included. Requests can still be rejected if Extra Usage is disabled, the balance is depleted, an automatic charge fails, or a per-key spend limit is reached.
Can I cap how much a single API key spends?
Yes. Each API key can have its own spend limit against the Extra Usage balance, so a noisy client or staging key can't drain your account.
What happens on the Free plan if I hit my limit?
Free plan requests over the included quota return a 429 status code. There's no Extra Usage on Free, so upgrade to Pro or Max to enable top-ups.
Can I upgrade or downgrade at any time?
Yes, you can change your plan at any time. Prorated charges will be applied automatically to your next billing cycle.
